For the growing season 06/07 IMBY decided to test some of the mulches produced by the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC), still using water efficient gardening methods (drip irrigation).

The RRC prepared another two beds, so the trial area was four beds each about 5.76 square metres.

Photos below show the four beds in January 2007 - the sign explains the trial
This bed is growing out beans for seed.  The harvested seed will be used for more "Pocket Money Beans"  Gaps in the beans are from a heatwave that killed seedlings in the middle of the bed
This is our water-use challenge for a lawn.  Turfco donated 6 square metres of "Sir Walter" Premium Lawn Turf - once it is established it requires no water other than rain.  That is what I am testing and so far, so good
This is the bed growing pumpkins, beans and tomatoes.  It is in a growing medium called "Nutrifeed" - the RRCs compost with Turkey litter blended in  The pumpkins have grown really well.  The beans may have been stunted by the pumpkins
This is the bed growing the same items as the Nutrifeed bed.  It uses Nutripost, which is the RRCs compost.  The beans have done better in this bed.  Growth from left to right shows how the drip watering provides better water pressure closer to the inlet.
