Get  Pocket Money Beans Click here!

There are some aspects of the IMBY project that can easily work into a curriculum.  Growing vegetables at school is OK, but getting parents engaged along with kids is even better.

The Pocket Money Seeds idea is easy to adopt.

Any seeds will do but I believe beans are the simplest, due to their size, reliability and ease of harvest and keeping seed.  You can order bean seeds in bulk from eden seeds - IMBY originally used a Bush Bean called "Strike".  These are are a good size and white.  As June 2007 they are $9.00 for 400 grams - enough for a classroom of seeds.  (www.edenseeds.com.au and browse to Beans, bush, strike).

I use small yellow pay packet envelopes for the bean seeds and attach a label.  I use labels that are Avery L7163 size - 99.1 by 38.1mm, 14 labels to a sheet.  A label sheet is available as a downloadable pdf.

You can also just get any commercial seed packets and attach a leaflet that explains the "Pocket Money" concept.  One side of the leaflet is intended for children, the other side is for parents/helpers.  The leaflet is available as a downloadable pdf.  The leaflet is A5 size, intended to be duplex printed then cut in half.

There a number of inspirational posters for gardening that can be displayed around the classroom.

Instant Gardens are also simple idea for a classroom or for home.  There is a downloadable pdf of the instant garden poster.  The poster is A2 size in colour.  You can print it A3 and then splice together or just print as A3.

The Downloads page contains of all the resources.
